Still time to start collecting food for NDO’s Reverse Giving Calendar Food Drive

We’re halfway through the month of November, if you haven’t started collecting food items for Ninth District Opportunity’s Reverse Giving Calendar Food Drive there’s still time to get started.

Ninth District Opportunity Community Resource Coordinator Paula Duley says during the month of November, each day donors will take a new item and add it to a box that will be collected at the end of the month to help provide food to struggling families and individuals in Toccoa-Stephens County.

Duley says the items listed on the Calendar are just suggestions and that you can choose which items to put in the box.

“This year, we’re going to do a reverse giving calendar. It starts November 1. Every day you should put an item, we have a list of suggested items, that you’ll put in a box. At the end of the 30 days of November, you’ll bring your box to the Ninth District Office, at 161 Queen Street, and we’re going to distribute those boxes to families and individuals that are struggling and are in need,” she said.

Suggested items include cereal, peanut butter, stuffing mix, boxed potatoes, boxed macaroni and cheese, and several canned items, just to name a few.

She says there are many families in Stephens County who are struggling financially.

“We’re seeing a lot more working families struggling to put food on the table, gas in their cars to get to work. So that’s what the food will be used for. And for our homeless people that we see in the winter-time who struggle with food issues,” she said.

Again, on December 1, bring the box to the Ninth District Opportunity Office in Toccoa.
