Stephens County’s number of COVID cases continue to climb

The number of COVID cases continues to increase in Stephens County.

According to the Department of Public Health, there have been 4,331 total cases of COVID-19 in Stephens County, since the start of the pandemic, an increase of 91 since WNEG’s report last week.

The DPH is reporting 93 confirmed COVID-related deaths in Stephens County, five more since WNEG’s report last Monday.

In the last two weeks, ending October 1, the DPH reports a total of 280 new cases in Stephens County.

For surrounding counties, Habersham County has 213 new cases in the last 2 weeks, Rabun County has 84, Banks County has 105, Franklin County 106, and Hart County has 59 new cases.

In Georgia, the DPH is reporting 1,225,670 total cases, an increase of 18,646 since WNEG’s report last week. The DPH also reports an increase of 635 deaths since WNEG’s report last Monday, bringing the total to 22,626 confirmed COVID-related deaths across the state of Georgia.

Additionally, this week, District 2 Public Health has opened a COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinic in Stephens County.

The clinic is being held at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, located at 995 East Tugalo Street, in Toccoa.

The clinic will be open today, Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 6, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

The offsite clinic will be scheduled as needed.
