Stephens County Therapeutic Pool will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate its reopening

The Stephens County’s therapeutic pool will open Monday, January 7.

That’s according to Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers.

Ayers adds that the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at the therapeutic pool on Monday at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

Stephens County Recreation Department Program Director Cheryl Stinnett told WNEG News they are planning several new programs to utilize the therapeutic pool.

Stinnett reminds residents that the therapeutic pool is not a lap pool.

The pool closed in November 2017 after Recreation Center Director Richard Adams said he had to close it because of problems with the heating and air conditioning system.

Adams said the problem began in 2001 when the entire HVAC system was installed incorrectly.

He said rust developed in the heating system because the dehumidifiers were not working properly.

Over the years, the system began to deteriorate further until last year when the fan on the heater finally quit altogether.
