Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Receives Second State Recertification

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office officially received its second re-certification.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said his department received the re-certification during the Georgia Sheriff’s Association’s Annual Summer Training Conference.

In order to maintain State Certification, a certified Assessment Team must perform an in-depth audit of the Sheriff’s office policy standards.

“The Sheriff’s office must be in compliance with more than 130 police standards in order to be granted State Certification,” Sheriff Shirley explained. “Our office has been able to meet or exceed agency standards every year for the past 8-years, making the Stephens County Sheriff’s office one of 126 statewide agencies out of 700 that meet certification requirements.”

In presenting the re-certification, the Sheriff said the assessment team leader praised Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and its employees for their level of support and understanding of the state certification process during the assessment audit.

The team leader also praised the Sheriff’s office for their efficiency with regard to the methods used to catalogue and store evidence obtained by the agency.

“Without the 100% participation of all of his employees State Certification would not be possible,” Sheriff Shirley said. “I am proud of the men and women who wear many hats, and work very hard year-after-year to help maintain the professional standards set forth by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) supported by the Georgia Sheriff’s Association (GSA). I am equally proud of State Certification Manager Lt. Stephen Stewart who also heads up the Office of Professional Standards”.
