Stephens County Sheriff names 2020 Deputy and Jailer of the Year

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley has announced the 2020 Deputy and Jailer of the Year.

Shirley says Daniel Dixon was nominated Deputy of the Year by his peers and has demonstrated an outstanding dedication to the community and to the Sheriff’s Office.

Dixon was hired by Shirley in September of 2017 as a jailer.

According to Shirley, Dixon worked his way up through the jail and was sent to Gang Investigation training in 2018 where he serves as a member of the Georgia Gang Investigation Association.

Dixon was promoted to Jail Supervisor in 2019.

In the latter part of 2019, Dixon was selected to advance to the Georgia Law Enforcement Academy where he graduated and was certified as a deputy sheriff through the Georgia Peace Officers Association.

Dixon has worked as a road deputy since 2019.

Shirley says Dondi Nelson was named Jailer of the Year for 2020.

According to Shirley, Nelson has demonstrated an outstanding dedication of service to his peers. He has set an example for staff through his ability to lead.

In 2019, Nelson was hired by Shirley and began his career serving Stephens County Sheriff Office.
