Stephens County Schools Will Now Start August 12th

The Stephens County Board of Education has moved the start of the 2020-2021 school year back one week to August 12th. Teachers will still report on July 29th. Each school’s website will post individual plans and protocols for opening.

During the recent Stephens County Board of Education meeting, the board voted to set the date for students to return to school for academic year 2020-2021 as August 12 to give teachers additional time to prepare for starting school.

Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham says the teachers needed additional time to better prepare for both teaching students virtually and in-person.

He says the delay start will give teachers enough time to be ready for the school year to begin prior to the arrival of students.

Board member Bill Wheeler made a motion setting the start date for students as August 12 with Board Member Kay Reed seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
