Stephens County Schools Name Their 2017 Teachers of the Year

In addition to Bainey’s award, each school in Stephens County named their own Teacher of the Year.

At Big A Elementary, the 2017 Teacher of the Year is Laura Cash.

Liberty Elementary named Lori Duncan as their Teacher of the Year.

Tleshia Farrar is this year’s Teacher of the Year at Toccoa Elementary School.

Melody Housley was named Teacher of the Year at the Fifth Grade Academy, and Lieutenant Coloner Retired David Priatko is 2017 Teacher of the Year at Stephens County High School.

Dorsey says the system is blessed to have such talented teachers.

“We are blessed to have at each of our schools such talented, highly qualified and just superb folks that are teaching our kids. Each of the representatives that we have at the school level have been such a blessing in the children’s lives that they see and an inspiration for their staffs. We are just proud of all of our teachers of the year this year,” Dorsey said.

The Teacher of the Year Program annually spotlights the teaching profession and recognizes outstanding public school teachers at the local and state levels.

The program is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education.

All five Teacher of The Year candidates will be recognized at a luncheon in the Spring of 2018 where the finalists will be announced.

A special Teacher of the Year banquet will then be held to announce the Georgia Teacher of the Year.

The winner will serve for one year as an ambassador teacher to all Georgia schools.
