Stephens County School System releases plan for posting weekly COVID-19 updates

The Stephens County School System will begin releasing a weekly report tracking COVID-19 in the school system.

During the recent Board of Education meeting, Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham asked for the board’s support to move forward with his plans to report a weekly COVID-19 update.

Oldham says the weekly report will include the number of students in the school system with a positive COVID-19 test result, the number of employees with a positive COVID-19 test result, the number of students in quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure and the number of employees in quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure.

Board member Wendy Dawkins asked that Oldham also include a list of current cases in the school system, rather than just a cumulative total of all cases.

Oldham says the report will be released each Friday; however, he says if something major happens, such as an outbreak, then the report could be released sooner for the week.

Board Member Bill Wheeler asked how the data would be gathered; which, Oldham says the data will be collected through various sources.

Following the discussion, the board agreed to support Oldham’s request.

The first report will be released on Friday, August 21, and can be found on the School System’s website at StephensCountySchools.org.
