Stephens County School System releases latest weekly COVID-19 update

The Stephens County School System has released the latest weekly COVID-19 update for the week ending December 18, 2020.

The update includes:

3 staff members with a positive COVID-19 test; 5 staff members quarantined at home; 159 students quarantined at home; and 5 students with a positive COVID-19 test.

There are 3,929 students currently enrolled in-person and virtually throughout the Stephens County School System and 536 current employees.

Again, these numbers represent the current active cases as of Friday, December 18, 2020 and is not a running total.

The Georgia Department of Public Health is now reporting 48 COVID-related deaths in Stephens County with 1,950 people testing positive for the virus, since the beginning of the global pandemic.

The latest report was released Sunday afternoon.

The latest report has Habersham County with 82 deaths and now 3,079 positive cases of the virus.

In other neighboring counties, Franklin County has had 21 deaths and 1,454 positive cases, Rabun County is now reporting 877 cases and 15 deaths, Hart County is reporting 983 cases and 20 deaths, and Banks County is reporting 17 deaths and 1,028 cases.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, there have been a total of  509,588 positive cases of the virus across the state of Georgia, of those, 39,412 have been hospitalized and the total death count due to complications of the virus has now risen to 9,437.
