Stephens County residents still needing to register to vote have until October 4

Stephens County Election Supervisor April Roberts is reminding residents, who are not registered to vote, interested in voting in the upcoming November General Election to register to vote prior to the October deadline.

She says you can register to vote now until the close of business on October 4, 2021.

Additionally, Roberts says anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot can request an application for one by calling her office at 706-886-8954.

She says because the November election will be the first election of 2021, anyone wanting to vote by absentee ballot will need to fill out the application form prior to receiving the ballot.

Absentee Ballots can be requested up until October 22, 2021.

On the ballot for the November election will be two posts for the Town of Martin.

Vying for the Town of Martin are incumbents Roger Looney and Sandy Stovall along with Diane Cole.

Additionally, residents will vote on a resolution for Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for the Stephens County School System.

The E-SPLOST resolution, if approved by the voters, will allow the school system to continue to collect a one percent sales and use tax for the purpose of financing certain capital outlay projects for education purposes.

The one percent sales tax will automatically end, if the school system reaches $26 million of net proceeds by the tax.

Early voting will be held at 37 W. Tugalo Street, in Toccoa, from October 11 through October 29, from 8:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays October 16, and October 23, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Election day voting for E-SPLOST will be on November 2, at the Stephens County Senior Center, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Election day voting for the Town of Martin’s two posts will be held on November 2, at the Martin Community Center from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
