Stephens County Rec. Department’s Splash Pad completed

The Stephens County Recreation Department Splash Pad has been completed.

During the recent Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting, County Administrator Phyllis Ayers announced that the Splash Pad is finished; though, there are a still a few minor decisions left to make prior to turning it on.

“We want to say the Splash Pad is finished. It has just a few items left, very small items, but it passed our Health Inspection. Korkat wants a photo of it for their advertising, all though they’ve done larger pads than this, I think they’re working on a large water park in Louisiana right now; but they were very impressed by the layout and how it turned out and it looks,” she said.

She says following the holidays, the Recreation Committee will meet to discuss the final touches.

“So, our Recreation Committee, after the holidays, we’re going to come back together and go down and look and see what chairs or benches we may want to add or if you want to change the wooden ones, someone mentioned maybe change the wood to metal. And then our Recreation Team talked about, and we need to decide, do you want people to be able to grill-out out there. So, we’ve got a lot of little things, little decisions for us to make before we turn that on,” she said.

The County has been working towards creating a Splash Pad for the Recreation Department for a few years.

The Splash Pad is located at the Roselane Recreation Complex, off Rose Lane in Toccoa.

Additionally, Ayers announced that the Recreation Department had four football teams go to the Semi Finals, and the county Cheerleaders competed at the Cheer Bowl.

“Also in Recreation, we had four of our Northeast Georgia Football Teams go to the Semi Finals. We ended up with two team champions and two runner ups,” she said. “And then our Cheer Bowl, they also did really well. So, probably in our January meeting, we will bring them forward and give them a plaque and recognize them.”

WNEG News will announce the date, once it is set, for the Recreation Department Youth Athletes to be recognized at the Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting.
