Stephens County issues criminal warrants against man accused of murder

Stephens County has issued criminal warrants against the Toccoa man accused of murdering Demorest resident 27-year-old Cody Jacob Stancil on April 4.

19-year-old Spencer Ray Reason is charged with one count of Felony Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, deputies were dispatched to 150 Welcome Road, in Eastanollee, on Sunday, April 4, regarding shots fired.

While deputies were in-route, 911 dispatch reported that a subject had been shot and the suspect had left in a white Ford Ranger.

As deputies responded to the shots fired call, they observed a white Ford Ranger parked at the Citgo gas station on Big A Road.

Units with the Toccoa Police Department responded to the gas station and detained the suspect, allowing deputies to continue to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies located a gunshot victim in the driveway where they began first aid, but the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was identified as Stancil.

Shirley requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assist with the investigation.

The investigation revealed that there was an altercation at 150 Welcome Road. One shot was fired by Reason.

Toccoa Police Officers notified deputies that Reason was the driver of the white Ford Ranger and located a 38 revolver as well as one spent casing located on Reason’s person.

At the time of the incident, Reason was placed under arrest and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Reason remains in the Stephens County Jail.
