Stephens County Hospital begins to Trend Upward

Across the state of Georgia hospitals struggle to stay afloat, and almost all of them are losing large amounts of money each month; especially, in expansive rural areas, where six hospitals have closed since 2013 and more than half of those remaining are at risk.

According to Stephens County Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Roger Forgey, the hospital staff has been working diligently and tirelessly to turnaround the financials, make improvements and assure the hospital is able to serve for many years to come.

Forgey says Stephens County has recovered enough to see positive income from operations  of the hospital, personal care homes and offices.

Now they are working to achieve profitability in the hospital’s net revenue and fund needed improvements.

He adds that his team is excited about the progress and grateful for the community support they have received.

According to Forgey Stephens County Hospital has budgeted a small profit for next year.

Under the leadership of Forgey’s team the hospital has made a number of improvements including:

Recruiting more doctors to provide additional health services to the community; upgraded and expanded its sleep lab; extended its Occupational Health Services through WorkWell, an off-site office, that accommodates a wide range of services for local employers who want to improve the health, safety and productivity of their employees; reopened the Lobby Grill, the former central hub of the community, by leasing the restaurant space; completely restructured the Emergency Department to better serve patients and reduce wait time; added back Dialysis; opened a new Swing Bed rehab unit and upgraded to a new women’s services center called the Center for Women’s Health just to name a few. They are renovating several areas within the hospital, adding a 3D mammography to the Women’s Center in December and have added substantial equipment upgrades in radiology, the ambulance service, and emergency equipment throughout the hospital, the personal care homes and the physician offices.

WNEG News will continue to provide coverage as the hospital continues to make improvements in all areas of healthcare.
