The Grand Jury recently handed down indictments in the Superior Court of Stephens County.

Austin Josef Lewis was indicted on one count of terroristic threats and one count of criminal trespass.

According to the indictment, the charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 10, 2022, when Lewis allegedly threatened to commit a crime of violence, specifically murder, against Robert Rosamond. Lewis also allegedly caused intentional damage to the interior of a Stephens County Hospital room.

Bobby Eugene Griffin was indicted for failure to register as a sex offender.

The charge stems from Griffin’s alleged failure, in 2020, to notify local law enforcement officials of his change of address as required by his status as a registered sex offender, ordered after a 1992 conviction in the Superior Court of Stephens County of aggravated child molestation.

The Grand Jury also indicted Corey Lamar Vongvatunyu on one count of possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Dec. 11, 2020, when Vongvatunyu was allegedly in possession of a 9mm Taurus pistol, in violation of the terms of his probation for a 2013 Clarke County felony attempted robbery.

The Grand Jury also indicted Avery Lee McCurley on one count of burglary in the second degree and one count of possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Dec. 8, 2020, when McCurley allegedly entered a building, located on Wolf Pit Road in Eastanollee, with the intent to commit a theft. McCurley allegedly was in possession of bolt cutters at the time of the alleged burglary.

The Grand Jury also indicted Stephen James Johnson on one count of aggravated assault, family violence.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Jan. 26, 2023, when Johnson allegedly put his hands around the victim’s throat and choked her with the intent of strangulation.
