Stephens County election results postponed until later today

Stephens County residents will have to wait another day before getting the final unofficial results for the Presidential Preference Primary and General Primary Election.

As of 1:30 a.m. Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober decided to call it quits for the night. She says her office will resume counting today at 2:30 p.m.

The only results that have been reported are the Advance In-Person, and Election Day totals.

For the Stephens County Sheriff’s Race, Incumbent Randy Shirley is leading with 58.04 percent of the vote or 1,646 votes and Challenger Rusty Fulbright is following behind with 41.96% of the vote or 1,190 votes.

In the State Senate District 50 race, Republican Stacy Hall is currently leading the polls with 24.67 percent of the vote or 668 in Stephens County; however, Republican Challenger Bo Hatchett is only slightly behind with 23.63 percent of the vote or 640.

Republican candidate Tricia Lynne Hise received 604 votes or 22.30 percent, Dan Gasaway follows behind Hise with 16.14 percent of the vote or 437. Lee Moore follows with 6.79 percent of the vote or 184 and Andy Garrison comes up with 6.46 percent of the vote or 175.

In the US House District 9 race, John Wilkinson takes the lead with 1,485 votes or 54.06 percent; following behind Wilkinson is Matt Gurtler with 12.56 percent of the vote. Then, Andrew Clyde comes in at 12.05 percent or 331 votes; Paul Broun comes in with 10.92 votes or 300 total; Kellie Weeks received 2.26 percent or 62 votes; Kevin Tanner received 2.15 percent or 59 votes; Maria Strickland received 2.07 percent or 57 votes; Ethan Underwood comes in with 1.97 percent of the vote or 54 votes; Michael Boggus also received 1.97 percent of the vote.

Again, the Registrar’s Office will resume counting the Absentee ballots this afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m.
