Stephens County celebrates School Lunch Hero Day, today

The Stephens County School Systems Nutrition Department will celebrate its 8th Annual School Lunch Hero Day, today.

School Lunch Hero Day is a chance to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for children in their community.

According to Stephens County School Nutrition Director Kim Caudell, in light of school closing, the Stephens County Nutrition Department has continued daily meals, breakfast and lunch at no cost for children ages and 18 and under.

She says, between preparing healthy meals for Stephens County students, adhering to strict nutrition standards,  and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.

Grab and go meal pickup is available at Stephens County Middle School daily between 11:00am-1:00pm.

There are several locations within the community that meals are delivered via school buses as well.

School Lunch Hero Day provides the perfect opportunity to recognize the hardworking professionals in our community.

Caudell says she is very proud of the work the nutrition staff has done during these unprecedented times.

When the emergency meal program started, the nutrition department were serving about 275 students; but, now are serving up to over 650 and numbers continue to climb.

Caudell says the program has been a collective effort involving nutrition staff, transportation staff, and system administration.

Again, the Stephens County School Nutrition Department is celebrating its 8th Annual School Lunch Hero Day, today.
