Stephens County Board of Commissioners meet tonight

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet today at 5:30 p.m. in the Stephens County Historical Courthouse for both its work session and regular scheduled meeting.

The commissioners will be holding a first public hearing for the occupation tax ordinance.

The occupation tax ordinance would create a fee schedule that would use the total gross income of a business to determine the amount of tax the business is responsible for paying.

For example, if a business brings in $200,000 annually that business would pay $100 in occupation tax.

The commissioners will also be holding a first public hearing for amending the alcohol ordinance.

The amendment to the ordinance would change the required reports and notices submitted to the County, along with an adjustment to the gross sales requirement.

The commissioners will also hold two land use public hearings regarding a rezoning request and conditional use request from Chad Singleton, for land parcels 046 and 083, located at Hwy 145, Ridgeland Road.

Singleton has requested to have the parcels rezoned from agriculture residential to agriculture intensive, in order to build two breeder houses for a poultry farm.

One of 14 items listed under new business on the agenda will include the commission considering a motion to award a bid from Mike Jones Ford for a Uniform Patrol Sport Utility Vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office to be paid out of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax VI.

The public is encouraged to attend.
