Stephens County a step closer to getting a Splash Pad

Stephens County residents will soon be able to make a splash during the warmer months.

At the recent Stephens County Board of Commissioners meeting, the board approved a motion awarding the design, delivery, and installation of a new water splash pad to Lanier Plans, Incorporated DBA KORKAT.

According to County Administrator Phyllis Ayers, this has been something the county has been planning for a few years, and those plans will soon come into fruition.

“Board to consider motion to award the design, delivery, and installation of new water splash pad park to Lanier Plans, Incorporated doing business as KORKAT in the amount of $226,223. In your agenda packet you have the RFP that went out and the bid tabulation sheet and they were the lowest responsible bidder,” she said.

Commissioner James Addison asked about adding a pavilion at the splash pad park; which, Ayers said the pavilion was intentionally left out of the bid package.

“I thought there was going to be some sort of covered area,” Addison said.

“Yeah, there’s a pavilion and bathrooms, but Randall and I, after many hours of discussion, decided to only bid out the splash pad part to the contractors, and Randall is going to handle the bidding of the pavilion and the bathrooms,” Ayers said.

Stephens County Building and Grounds Director Randall Cleveland said after years of work, he’s happy to see the county move forward with the Splash Pad Park.

“I’m just thrilled to get this underway after years, and we’re ready, I’m going out as far as bidding on the bathrooms and other stuff and get it underway,” Cleveland said.

Ayers added that KORKAT would focus on the grading and Splash Pad with Cleveland biding out the pavilion and bathrooms.

A motion was made by Commissioner Dean Scarborough with Commissioner Michelle Ivester seconding the motion.

The motion was approved unanimously.
