Stephens County 911 Center will implement Emergency Dispatch Program beginning January 2, 2021

An official date has been set for Stephens County 911 to implement its Emergency Dispatch Program.

According to Stephens County 911/EMA Director Danielle Rhodes, the program will go into effect on January 2, 2021.

She says the Emergency Dispatch Program will allow dispatchers to give out medical directions over the phone; something that dispatchers in Stephens County are unable to do currently.

Rhodes says the Emergency Dispatch Program, dispatchers will be giving callers medical instructions that can save lives or sustain the patient until EMS arrives.

She says they will be able to give CPR and AED instructions, childbirth, choking, and bleeding control, and will be able to assist callers in administering certain medications such as aspirin, Narcan, and epinephrine.

WNEG News spoke with one of the dispatchers at the Stephens County 911 Call Center, Lindsay Brawner, who said she’s confident the Emergency Dispatch Program will save lives.
