Stephens Co. Woman Arrested in Banks Co. Investigation

marteka-irbyA Stephens County woman is arrested on a drug charge in connection with an investigation to a prostitution operation in Banks County.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office conducted the operation at a cooperating local hotel in the Banks Crossing area last week.

As part of the investigation, 24-year-old Marteka Irby of Toccoa was arrested for Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Less Than One Ounce of Marijuana.

In all, the Banks County Sheriff’s Office arrested eight people as part of this investigation.

Also among the eight people arrested was 31-year-old Christine Leann Thompson of Clarkesville on charges of Pimping and Giving False Name and Date of Birth.

Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed said that prostitution, pandering, or drugs will not be tolerated inside Banks County.

Speed said that Banks County’s citizens and business owners depend on the revenue brought in by the Banks Crossing businesses where people eat, shop, and rest.

He added that the Banks County Sheriff’s Office’s continued special operations in the area will aid in preventing the exit from becoming like so many criminal infested exits along the interstate system.
