Stephens Co. Sheriff’s Investigators Close Two Drug Cases

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley reports two drug arrests in the last week.

On June 19, investigators completed a weeklong investigation, resulting in the arrest of Adrian-David Guest Howell, 38 of Martin.

Shirley said investigators discovered illegal drugs during a traffic stop.

“They were doing a traffic stop on June 19 at 5 p.m. when they discovered some illegal drugs in the vehicle,” said Shirley. “A search warrant was executed at his room at the Country Hearth Inn in Toccoa. While searching the room, investigators recovered 9 ounces of methamphetamine, 2 ounces of marijuana, seized Schedule II prescription medication, weighing scales and more than $1,000 in cash.”

Howell was charged with trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute, 3 counts of Possession of a schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute and Possession of a Schedule III with intent to distribute. He is currently at Stephens County Jail and was denied bond.

In another case, investigators wrapped up a weeks long criminal investigation involving the sale of marijuana.

On June 21, investigators executed a search warrant at 48 Quary Drive in Toccoa and Shirley said during the search, investigators found illegal substances.

“During the search, investigators recovered 6 ounces of marijuana that was concealed in the bathroom toilet,” said Shirley. “Along with packaging materials and more than $1,000 in cash. We also seized Jamal Brown’s Jeep Compass that was used to facilitate the sell of illegal drugs in Stephens County.”

Two suspects were arrested, including Jamal Marcus Brown, 32 and Addie Mary Black, 21 both of Toccoa.

Brown and Black were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute.

Shirley said he’s proud of his investigators for closing these cases.

“You have to realize, this is a night and day investigation on both of these cases,” said Shirley. “It took a lot of time doing surveillance and gathering intelligence on both arrests. We got a lot of drugs off the streets and three people will be going to prison for this if found guilty. Hopefully we’ll cut down on the meth epidemic.”

A $15,000 bond was set in the Jamal Brown and Addie Black case. According to Shirley, there is a probation hold on Brown, so he will remain in the Stephens County Detention Center, even when he makes bond.
