Stephens Co. Humane Shelter Announces Pride Paws Park

The Toccoa Lions Club and Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter hosted a Business After Hours Open House last week to announce the new Pride Paws Park.

Visitors at the event looked at the drawings for the park and there was a presentation to follow about the plans and amenities for the park.

Executive Director of the Shelter Jeff Roberts said that the Lions Club is working in conjunction with the shelter to get the park built.

Pride Paws Park will be directly behind the shelter in a mostly wooded area.

Roberts described the purpose of the park.

“It’s going to be for both pets and people,” said Roberts. “There will be exercise areas for people, the walkway will be for both people and pets.”

When opened, Pride Paws Park can be used by the public for their own pets as well as volunteers working with pets from the shelter. There will also be two off-leash areas available.

Roberts said that this park is a community wide project and it will be a great asset for the community.

“The park will enable individuals to take out and exercise their animals in a nice, safe environment,” said Roberts. “It’s also a great program for shelter animals that don’t have the luxury of getting walked on a regular basis, and for prospective adopters to take a dog out and walk them around and bond with them. It should greatly enhance our adoptions at the shelter.”

The Lions Club is soliciting donations, working on grants and soliciting a Pennies For Paws program to raise money for the park.
The opening date for Pride Paws Park is to be determined.
