Stephens Co. Board of Education Discusses Current and Upcoming SPLOST

At the Stephens County Board of Education work session on Wednesday, the board discussed the upcoming SPLOST.

Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said there will be a bond validation to allow the board to go to Superior Court to be able to issue bonds up to 13.5 million dollars that the board has already approved.

Dorsey said this is just a legal procedure.

“If you don’t do a bond validation within six months of the election, you can’t sell bonds,” said Dorsey. “This doesn’t require you to sell bonds, it doesn’t require you to sell 13.5 million, that’s where it would cap like we already said.”

The board also discussed the current SPLOST funds as they are projecting $500,000 to be left over. In addition to the technology upgrades they are planning for, Dorsey also asked the board to begin considering resurfacing the tennis courts at the high school.

Dorsey said this is not an immediate need, but it will eventually need to be done.
