State Tournament a Tough Weekend for Indian Wrestlers

The Stephens County Indians Wrestling Team sent two boys and two girls to the state tournament in Macon last weekend.

Emily Harper and Siena Malek wrestled very tough throughout the tournament, but failed to make it through the placement rounds.

Tucker Kinsey managed to make top 8 in his weight class by pinning his opponent from Bremen in the first period before being defeated by a tough wrestler from Gordon Lee.

Solomon Dupree set out to improve his 5th place finish from last year.  With his 2nd place finish at the sectional tournament, he was rewarded with a first round bye.  Dupree won a close 1-0 match over his opponent from Upson Lee to insure him a top 6 placement.  He took a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in the semifinals to the wrestler from Adairsville, who would go on to become the state champion this year.  Solomon then defeated his opponent from Lumpkin, but lost to Upson Lee in the consolation finals, earning him a 4th place finish this year.

Head Coach Brandon Rowland expressed his thanks to everyone for their continued support of the Indian wrestling program.
