Stacy Hall asks for Recount of August 11 Run-off

Following the August 11 Primary Runoff election, voters in Northeast Georgia continue to wait for a definitive answer in the 50th District State Senate runoff.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, Republican candidate Bo Hatchett who was leading by 34 votes after election night, was able to pick up six more votes after provisional ballots were added to the election totals.

Hatchett’s challenger Stacy Hall gained one more vote due to provisional ballots.

In total, Hatchett received 12,488 votes throughout the entire district, just 40 more than Hall who received 12,448 votes.

On Monday, August 17, Hall issued a press release announcing he is exercising his right to call for a recount after the results showed a difference in the vote count of just 40 votes.

The Secretary of State’s Office has not yet certified the election results from last Tuesday but each of the eight counties in the 50th State Senate District have.

In Stephens County, Registrar Eureka Gober tells WNEG News, Monday morning, that her office has a meeting with the Secretary of State’s Office Monday evening to discuss when the recount will happen.

The Official Code of Georgia says if the difference between two candidates in a runoff is not more than one-half of 1 percent of the total votes cast, a candidate shall have the right to a recount of the votes cast. Such a request must be made in writing to the Secretary of State’s Office within two business days following the State’s Certification of the election.

Following the recount, a winner will be announced to face Democrat Dee Daley, of Rabun County, in the November General Election.
