St Pius Sweeps Indians

St. Pius senior guard Emma Drash scored 39 points, including two free throws with less than 10 seconds to go in regulation to tie the game, and the Lady Golden Lions defeated a tough-minded Stephens County Lady Indians team in overtime 72-68 Tuesday night at Currahee Arena.

NaNa Eades, one of four Lady Indians to foul out of the game, scored 21 points, and Ranajah Verdell added 20 in the tough loss.

The Lady Indians trailed by as many as 10 points in the 2nd half, but scored nine straight to close within one, and led by as many as five in the 4th quarter.

Stephens County shot the ball well with 8 three-pointers in the game.

KiKi Howard added 10 points for the Lady Indians now 5-15 on the season and 1-5 in Region-8 AAAA play. St. Pius improves to 11-10 overall and 4-1 in the Region.

In the boys contest, Stephens County trailed highly ranked St. Pius by just 1 point at the half, but was outscored 32-18 in the second half and fell by a final of 57-42.

Stephens County was led by Ty Nails with 18 points, Chris Sinclair added 11.

St. Pius had balanced scoring led by Patrick Snipes with 10 points.

It was the 17th straight win for the Golden Lions as they improve to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in Region-8 AAAA play. Stephens County is still in 2nd place in the Region with a record of 4-2, and 14-7 overall.

The St. Pius JV girls also defeated Stephens County.
