South Carolina Shooting Leaves One Dead

An early Wednesday morning shooting leaves one dead, near Walhalla South Carolina.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, in South Carolina, is investigating an early morning shooting that occurred at an address on Quarter Horse Trail near Walhalla.

According to authorities, deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division were dispatched to the address around 3:35 a.m. due to reports of a trespassing.

While enroute, deputies were notified that shots had been fired and the homeowner had been shot.

It is reported that the suspect shot the homeowner as the homeowner was holding the suspect at gunpoint after the homeowner discovered the suspect on the property.

The homeowner returned fire and shot the suspect.

Once deputies arrived, they were directed to the backside of the residence by the homeowner’s wife where they discovered the homeowner.

Deputies administered first aid, to both individuals, until paramedics arrived and the homeowner and the suspect were transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The homeowner, 63-year-old Robert McDowell, died at 5:57 a.m. due to complications from his injury sustained after being shot.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 24-year-old Tyler Broome of Dewey Street, for murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and entering premises after warning.

Broome had been served with a trespass notice from a previous incident at the same address on June 21, 2017.

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says that there is not any further threat to the public at this time.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
