South Carolina man arrested in Stephens County

A South Carolina man was arrested in Stephens County after a traffic stop.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on October 22, at approximately 3 p.m., a Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a report of a reckless driver on Big A Road.

The deputy observed a vehicle matching the description and began to monitor the vehicle.

Shirley says the driver immediately threw something out the vehicles window, prompting the deputy to perform a traffic stop near the intersection of Big A Road and Collins Road.

While speaking with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Joshua Sanders, of Seneca, South Carolina, the deputy noticed that Sanders appeared to be nervous and made the determination to deploy his K-9.

The K-9 then gave an alert on the vehicle, which indicates the presence of illegal drugs.

During the search, the deputy located a firearm and multiple amounts of illegal drugs including methamphetamine, heroin, and Fentanyl.

Sanders was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of methamphetamine, heroin, and Fentanyl.

Shirley says, because of the large amount of illegal drugs, Sanders was also charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl; one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, and one count of littering.

Sanders is currently incarcerated in the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing in Superior Court.
