Some Hart EMC Customers Could be Without Power for Several Days, Officials Say

Snapped power lines like this one are scattered across Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties.

It could be days before some Hart EMC customers get their power back.

“This is the worst damage I’ve seen in my career here,” said Hart EMC spokesman Keith Brown early Tuesday.

As of 5 P.M Tuesday, 6,355 Hart EMC customers in their six-county service area were without power, most as the result of trees falling onto power lines.

Crews have been out since Tropical Storm Irma barrelled through Northeast Georgia and the Upstate Monday working to restore power as fast as they can, according to Brown.

“It will be several days before we can power fully restored to all areas,” Brown said. “We just don’t have enough manpower to get it done any faster.”

The hardest hit counties include Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties.

By 5 P.M. Tuesday in Stephens County, just over 2,800 Hart EMC customers are without power.

In Franklin County, just over 1,600 customers and in Hart County, 1,309 customers are still in the dark.

Brown said his crews had hoped to go down to South Georgia to help EMC’s there, but Irma changed that on Monday.

Brown said crews are working as fast as they can to get the power back on and he asked for patience.
