Small turnout, still productive at Stephens County Town Hall

The last Stephens County Town Hall Public Forum of 2018 was productive despite having a small turnout.

On Saturday, Stephens County Board of Commissioners Chairman Michelle Ivester hosted the fourth town hall at the Historic County Courthouse, allowing citizens to address concerns and pose questions regarding Stephens County.

One Stephens County resident asked Ivester what the future plans are for the County Annex Building on Tugalo Street.

Ivester said that the county has yet to decide.

Following the forum, Ivester told WNEG News that she plans to continue hosting quarterly Town Hall Public Forums next year.

“The turnout was a little slim this time, but with the weather being so beautiful after we had all that rain that was to be understood,” Ivester said, “and also with the holidays right here at us, it’s understandable that the turnout would be a little bit lower for this one. But, we’re looking forward to the next one coming up, hopefully in March, and at that point, I think that we’re going to maybe have one at the Senior Center, and branch out a little bit into different places in the community where we can have them and invite people to attend.”

Ivester announced at the beginning of 2018, as an initiative for the county commissioners to receive additional input from the public, that she would begin holding public forums.

Each public forum is made available to any resident who are unable to attend any regular scheduled county meetings.

According to Ivester the first Town Hall of 2019 will be held one Saturday in March.
