Single-car wreck on Friday in Stephens County results in fatality

Deputies from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by 911 Dispatch regarding a one car accident in the 700 block of Hayes-Wilbanks Road on Friday afternoon, August 18,  at 12:46 p.m., Sheriff Randy Shirley told WNEG News this evening. 

A vehicle lost control in the curve, crossing over the oncoming lane, where the vehicle left the roadway. The side of the vehicle struck a tree, and the vehicle overturned.  

Upon arrival, firefighters from the Eastanollee Fire Department extricated the driver from the vehicle, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene once Stephens County Paramedics arrived, Shirley stated. 

Following protocol, Stephens County 911 Dispatch was requested to notify Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Toccoa and request them to work the fatality scene. 

GSP Post 7 will handle notifications, and WNEG News will not provide the driver’s identification until officially released by GSP.
