Shooting suspect faces trial in November

In Franklin County, the suspect accused of shooting two Lavonia Police officers last December is expected to go to trial November 6 in Franklin County Superior Court.

Authorities say 22-year-old Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon of Greenville, South Carolina allegedly shot Lavonia Police Captain Michael Schulman and Officer Jeffrey Martin during a traffic stop the evening of December 12 at the Zaxby’s on Highway 17 in Lavonia.

The officers had pulled Gordon over for a routine traffic stop in the fast food parking lot and discovered the vehicle he was driving had been stolen out of Greenville.

During questioning, Gordon allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at the officers before fleeing on foot.

He was arrested several hours later after an all-out manhunt that included multiple law enforcement agencies from North Georgia.

Gordon is charged with four felony counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, four counts of felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of felony aggravated battery, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony theft by bringing stolen merchandise into the state.

He is currently being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center awaiting trial in Franklin County.
