Shirley Urges Drivers to Stay off Roads

Snow was still falling in areas of Stephens County with a wintry mix in other areas. With over 4 inches of measurable snow on the ground Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says it is still best to stay off of the roads. “As you awake you may see the snow stopped, but the ground still covered. We are worried about black ice. We urge and caution any driver in Stephens and surrounding counties to stay home. We have had some accidents-no one seriously injured, but minor fender benders and vehicles sliding off roads. It is tough to drive in conditions like this.

Shirley says for those essential personnel needed to report to work the department is here to help. “ If you have a need call 911. If you are in public safety, or a nurse or doctor we will be happy to pick you up and get you back home.”
