Sheriff’s Office Make Two Arrests

The Stephens County Sheriff’s office have arrested two Toccoa men on a number of charges.

At approximately 12:23 A.M. on Friday morning, a sheriff’s office K-9 unit observed a black Ford Fusion with an improper license plate. The deputy radioed 911 Dispatch to check a license plate through the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC). The tag revealed a suspended registration and no valid insurance.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle on West Currahee Street near Easy Street.  When the deputy approached the vehicle, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside.

Due to the driver’s actions and the odor of marijuana, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Deputies found a quantity of prepackaged baggies of marijuana, various drug paraphernalia, black ski masks, and an American Tactical AR-15.

The driver, Christopher Colbert, age 25 of Toccoa, was arrested and charged with, illegal possession of a controlled substance, possessions of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of an AR-15 Rifle during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, registration and license requirements, and failure to maintain insurance.

The passenger, Zachary Mulwee, age 17 of Toccoa, was arrested and charged with, possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to distribute and illegal possession of a controlled substance. 

Both are currently incarcerated in the Stephens County Jail.
