Sheriff’s Office Gets GOHS Grant
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office will use a state grant to help with DUI education and enforcement.
Recently, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded the Sheriff’s Office a grant of nearly $10,000.
Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley says that part of the grant will allow his office to buy a golf cart, trailer, traffic cones, and DUI goggles.
Shirley said that will help with the education aspect of DUI prevention.
“It is going to be used to teach youth about the dangers of driving while impaired,” said Shirley.
In addition, part of the grant will be used to buy eight hand held intoxilyzers and a laptop computer.
Shirley said this equipment will help with enforcement and case preparation.
“We want to actively pursue all of the violators in our community,” said Shirley.
He added that the Sheriff’s Office knows DUI continues to be a problem in the community.
