Sheriff’s Office continues to search for suspect who burglarized the Yonah Hydroelectric Dam

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office continues to ask for the public’s help in identifying a burglary suspect at the Yonah Hydroelectric Dam.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley tells WNEG News it happened sometime between February 4th and 5th.

He said surveillance cameras captured a man inside the plant who made off with various tools that were inside the facility.

Yonah Dam is owned and operated by Georgia Power.

The Sheriff said Wednesday, his investigators met recently with tri-state law enforcement from neighboring states and Georgia Power Security officials in Atlanta to discuss the case.

He said the investigation is a top priority for his office.

From the surveillance photos released by the Sheriff’s office, the suspect appears to be a light-skinned male in his teens or 20’s.

At the time of the break-in the suspect was wearing a dark blue or black hoodie sweatshirt with the word, Renfroe, in yellow letters along with a basketball emblem on the front, a dark colored baseball cap, and baggy pants.

The photos of the suspect are on the WNEG News page and on the Stephens County Sheriff’s office Facebook page.

Anyone with information on who the suspect might be is asked to contact the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 706-886-7048.
