Sheriff’s Dept. and Toccoa Police involved in vehicle chase

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley reports the arrest of an individual after fleeing from deputies.

On June 4, deputies initiated a traffic stop on Sautee Street when a vehicle failed to stop. The suspect identified as Matthew Ivester, 30 of Toccoa, fled from deputies and ended up wrecking his vehicle after going down an embankment and then continuing to drive through a wooded area, knocking down trees.

According to Shirley, deputies called for assistance from Toccoa Police Department and Ivester was placed under arrest.

The Sheriff’s Department charged Ivester with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, reckless driving, driving while license suspended or revoked, removing or affixing license plate with expired or no registration or title and criminal trespass.

He was transported to the Stephens County Detention Center.
