Sheriff Reminds Parents of Safety Tips for Children Who Ride the Bus

Yesterday’s back to school reminder was for motorists being cautious of school buses, but parents whose children ride the bus should also keep some safety tips in mind.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley advises parents to make sure their children know not to play in the street while waiting for the bus, wait for the bus driver to signal to you before crossing the street and walk at least 10 steps away from the front of the bus so the driver can see you.

Also, never reach under the bus to get anything that may have fallen under it, don’t shout or distract the bus driver unnecessarily, be at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to the bus arriving and carry all loose material in a book bag.
