Seven inducted in the Stephens County Schools Hall of Fame

Last night, May 2, at the Second Annual Student Success Expo, seven individuals were inducted into the Stephens County Hall of Fame.

The last time new inductees were announced was in 2021, when Stan Elrod inducted, bringing the number of honored individuals to 74.

At last night’s event, inductees Ron Barker, Grady Lee Beaty, Elliot Caudell, Gail Fry, Leon Gathany, L.J. Harrison and Frankie Whitworth were announced.

The Stephens County Hall of Fame was established in 1989 to recognize outstanding graduates and former educators of the Toccoa and Stephens County school systems.

Hall of fame members include those who have excelled in service to the community, military service or in educational, professional or athletic endeavors.

To be eligible, individuals must have graduated from a Toccoa or Stephens County school or have been part of one of the systems.

Hall of Fame recipients must have graduated or retired for 10 years or retired from the professional education system of Stephens County for at least 10 years.

A board of directors accepts nominations yearly for the Hall of Fame and makes its selections from those nominations.

WNEG News will have further information on the induction ceremony and coverage of the Student Success Expo in Monday’s news reports.
