Sen. Wilkinson’s Agriculture Education Bill Signed into Law

An agriculture education bill put forth by State Senator John Wilkinson of Toccoa is now law.

Last month, Governor Nathan Deal was joined by Wilkinson and other legislators from around the state, as he signed Senate Bill 330 into law.

Senate Bill 330 will create a pilot program to develop and implement agricultural education in Georgia’s elementary schools.

The bill also establishes standards and curriculum for the agricultural education program for students in grades six through 12.

“I am honored Governor Deal signed this legislation into law and was humbled that the members at the annual FFA convention could witness this historic moment for agriculture education,” said Sen. Wilkinson. “Many students across our state, whether in rural cities or large metropolitan areas, are disconnected with the role agriculture plays in their everyday lives. I would like to especially thank my colleagues in the Senate and House, Lt. Governor Cagle and Speaker Ralston for their support of agriculture education.”

Deal signed the bill April 27th at the 90th annual FFA convention in Macon, Georgia in front of some 6,000 FFA members and advisors from across the state.

Senator Wilkinson serves as Chairman of the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee.

He represents the 50th Senate District which includes Banks, Franklin, Habersham, Rabun, Stephens and Towns counties and portions of Hall and Jackson counties.
