Second Annual Night at the Museums Coming Up June 28

Currahee Military Museums documents Toccoa’s involvement in World War II

Toccoa Main Street is hosting their second annual “Night at the Museums” this month to give you the opportunity to learn more about our community and enjoy a movie as well.

“Night at the Museums” is coming up Friday, June 28 from 4p to 7p.

Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said the evening will offer tours of Toccoa’s three museums and provide a fun family movie.

The movie this year is, “Night at the Museum 2.”

Toccoa, she noted, is one of a very few smaller communities to boast three separate museums, such as the Currahee Military Museum.

“The Currahee Military Museum is something that many people in Toccoa have never to before,” she explained. “It documents the history of Toccoa and Band of Brothers, the paratroopers who trained here in Toccoa in World War II. I think children will find it fascinating.”

The two other museums in Toccoa include the antique car museum on East Currahee St. called, Miles Through Time and the Leon and Rachel Gathany Museum of Natural History on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

Miles Through Time features antique vehicles

“Miles Through Time is really a one-of-a-kind auto museum that features cars through the decades,” Crosby said.

“Then the third museum is the Leon and Rachel Gathany Museum of Natural History,” She continued. “Many people remember Leon Gathany and his love for nature. He was a school teacher and a naturalist. He had some very unique specimens that he collected over the years. So I think people will be very interested in the displays that are out there.”

The special movie presentation of, “Night at the Museum 2” will be shown at the Ritz Theatre downtown Friday afternoon. Crosby said it’s a great way to spend an evening with the family.

Admission to all three museums and the movie is $10 for adults. Children under 12 will get in to all three museums and the move for free.
