Seamless Summer meal program starts Monday

It may be hard to believe, but there are many children in Stephens county who don’t get enough to eat during the summer months.

That’s why Stephens County Schools Nutrition Department is gearing up for their annual “Seamless Summer” meals program.

Kim Caudell is Stephens County School Nutrition Director. She says the program will begin on Monday, June 3.

The Seamless Summer program provides sack lunches, free of charge, to children 18 and younger in the community at various locations.

Caudell says, on average, the school system provides close to 15,000 meals each summer.

There are 8 locations throughout Stephens County that children will be able to pick up their free lunch including: Stephens Drive Apartments, Stephens County Middle School Cafeteria, the Pines Apartments, Fern Point, Falls Park Apartments, Morgan Place, Doyle Street Pool, and Wood Street.

Stephens County Middle School Cafeteria will also provide free breakfast at 8:00 a.m.

Free lunches are provided Monday through Friday, from June 3-28, and July 8-26. There will be no lunches provided the week of July 1-5.

Caudell says there are no forms to fill out and no registration to participate in the program. She adds that children must be present to receive a meal and meals must be consumed on site.
