SCSS Nutrition Department preparing for start of Free Summer Meals Program

Stephens County School System’s Nutrition Department is gearing up for its free summer meals program.

According to School Nutrition Director Kim Caudell the summer meal program will begin on June 5.

During the summer months, the program provides a free sack lunch, Monday through Thursday, to children 18 and younger in Stephens County.

It may be hard to believe, but there are many children in Stephens County who don’t get enough to eat during the summer months.

Caudell says, on average, the school system provides close to 15,000 meals each summer.

She says there are nine locations throughout the county where children will be able to pick up their free lunches.

Each day, Monday through Thursday, at 10:30 a.m. lunches will be available for pickup at Stephens Drive Apartments and at Stephens County Middle School Cafeteria.

At 10:50 a.m. lunches will be available at The Pines Apartments; then at 11:10 a.m. lunches can be picked up at Falls Park Apartments.

At 11:15 a.m. lunches will be available at Fern Point; then at 11:30 a.m. lunches can be picked up at Doyle Street Pool.

At 11:35 a.m. lunches will be available at Morgan Place; then at 11:55 lunches will be available at Wood Street, and at 12:15 p.m. lunch will be available at The Vista/Ridgecrest.

The Summer Meal Program will run Monday through Thursday, June 5 through June 30, then again beginning on July 3 until July 20.

Children will receive a Grab and Go lunch along with a breakfast for the following morning.
