SCSO, TPD warning that Facebook post is false

A fictitious post is circulating through Facebook.

WNEG News received a copy of the post that reads: “Warning. The public around Stephens County is being warned to be alert. This man is moving around asking for food and help; but, when you invite him into your home he attacks you, after checking if there are no men around. He is on drugs, armed and very dangerous. He attacked a single mom with a knife two days ago leaving her struggling for her life. If you see him, please report to the police. Warn others.”

However, WNEG reached out to local law enforcement the check the validity of the claims.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley the information in the post is inaccurate and that his IT deputy has determined that it was posted through a fake foreign account.

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize told WNEG News that the information in the post was inaccurate as well.

Again, the post circulating through Facebook warning Stephens County residents of a dangerous man is unfounded and false.
