SCSO S.T.I.N.G. Unit arrest Wanted Fugitive at local motel

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office S.T.I.N.G. Unit has arrested a wanted fugitive.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on March 16, his office received a tip that 34-year-old Defarrell Hunter, of Toccoa, was hiding out at a local motel.

Once deputies arrived at the motel, they spoke with the renter of the room. Permission was then given for the deputies to enter.

Upon entry, deputies located Hunter inside the restroom.

Hunter was immediately arrested.

Deputies then asked the renter of the room for permission to search the bathroom area after Hunter was arrested. While searching the area with a K9 Deputy, a firearm along with prepackaged baggies of suspected heroin was recovered from the restroom.

Hunter was charged with an outstanding warrant, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin, and possession of marijuana.

Hunter is being held at the Stephens County Jail on a $46,000 bond.
