SCSO makes drug arrest after traffic stop

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office makes an arrest after performing traffic stop on vehicle.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on July 31, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Hwy 123 near Fernside Drive.

Upon making contact with the driver, Sheriff’s Corporal Michael Vice was granted consent to search the vehicle.

Vice observed a green, eye-glass case laying in the area where vehicle occupants were previously sitting.

Shirley said upon inspection of the case, a quantity of crystal methamphetamine and a GameStop Rewards Card was found.

During questioning, the driver nor the passenger claimed the methamphetamine as their own.

Shirley tells WNEG News the deputy then contacted GameStop to verify the owner of the rewards card. GameStop officials advised the rewards card was owned by Michael Kelley.

At this point, Michael Kelley, 46, of Toccoa was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and operating a motor vehicle without a seatbelt.

Kelly is currently incarcerated with a $7,000 bond.
