SCSO deputies uncover $25,000 worth of stolen items

Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently uncovered a series of stolen items at a residence on Christine Circle.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the incident occurred on July 19, when his deputies traveled to a residence on Christine Circle to execute an arrest warrant for the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

He said that while his deputies were on scene, they observed a dump trailer with the manufacturer’s serial numbers removed.

Deputies also ran a license plate on a vehicle at the residence that returned stolen from Habersham County.

At this point, deputies notified the Criminal Investigations Division who responded to the scene.

While investigators were responding, deputies observed a boat and trailer on the same property. After running the serial numbers through GCIC, both returned stolen out of Habersham County.

When investigators arrived, they were briefed on all of the items that had returned stolen.

Investigators then began looking through the dump trailer to see if there was anything to help identify an owner.  After locating some identifying information, investigators ran the trailer through GCIC where it was recently reported stolen from Forsyth County. Investigators also located a stolen jet ski and trailer from Forsyth County.

Sheriff Shirley said the total value of all the items recovered was approximately $25,000. All of the items recovered were returned to Forsyth and Habersham counties to be returned to the rightful owners.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Timothy Leon Black, 55, of Toccoa. He is being charged with two counts of felony theft by receiving stolen property, one count of misdemeanor theft by receiving stolen property, and one count of criminal use of article with altered identification marks.
