SCSO continues search for man believed to be responsible for fatally shooting an Eastanollee man

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said his office is continuing its investigation into the shooting that claimed the life of an Eastanollee man.

Shirley says his office is looking for Asa Terrel Wilbanks, 27, is a white male standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 200 pounds with brown hair. Wilbanks is believed to be responsible for the shooting. He was last seen Sunday night driving a red Pontiac G6 in the Hayes Wilbanks Road area of Eastanollee.

Shirley says an argument in Stephens County ended with one man being fatally shot, Sunday night, and the two suspects continue to evade being captured.

He says that when deputies arrived on scene, they found one man dead from a gunshot wound, his identity has yet to be released.

Shirley says that it has been determined that prior to the shooting, an argument had ensued outside of the residence, over the victims’ vehicle that had been reported stolen a couple of weeks prior to the Lavonia Police Department. Shirley says at some point during the physical altercation, a shot was fired, striking the victim who died at the scene.

Shirley adds that after the shooting, the two suspects fled.

According to Shirley, law enforcement has identified the two individuals through interviews at the scene and in Franklin and Hart counties.

Shirley says the suspects have left Stephens County, based on leads and other evidence that was discovered in another county.

He advises law enforcement to proceed with caution because at least one man is armed with a long gun and is considered dangerous.

Shirley says the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Lavonia Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Stephens County Coroner’s Office have assisted in the investigation.

The investigation continues.
