SCSO catches “Butterfly”

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, the Sheriff’s Office located fugitive Lisa “Butterfly” Smith, 35, of Toccoa, on Nov. 14.

Smith was located at 1st Class Storage on Scott Road in Eastanollee.

The search started for Smith back in July of this year during the take down of a large illegal drug operation by the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and other assisting agencies, Including the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

During the drug bust, ARDEO issued warrants on Lisa Smith, who goes by “Butterfly”, for Conspiracy to Violate the Georgia Controlled Substance Act and Use of Communication Facility in Commission of a Felony Involving Controlled Substances.

Smith evaded authorities during the bust and had been on the run ever since.

Smith stayed one step ahead of the authorities by changing vehicles, changing her appearance, and continuously changing locations where she stayed.

During the search for Smith Investigators with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office received information that Smith was using a storage unit at 1st Class Storage in Eastanollee.

Investigators then watched and waited for Smith to arrive at the storage unit.

Upon arrival of Smith, investigators surrounded the vehicle and approached her.

Smith identified herself and gave up without incident.

While the Investigators approached Smith she had been seen placing a pair of boots in her vehicle and shutting the door.

The Investigators looked through the window and saw a baggy in one of the boots that contained a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Smith was then transported to the Stephens County Detention Center and a search warrant was obtained for her vehicle and storage unit.

During the search, methamphetamine was located in the vehicle and a baggy of marijuana was located in the storage unit.

Smith is currently being held at the Stephens County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, charged for outstanding warrants, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
