SCSO arrest two Gainesville residents following traffic stop

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two Gainesville residents following a traffic stop.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on December 9, at approximately 10:22 a.m. a deputy with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a gray Ford Fusion on Highway 106.

Shirley says the stop was conducted after Deputy Moss noticed that the driver of the vehicle did not have their seatbelt on and the vehicle had no tag displayed.

When the deputy identified the driver through the Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center deputies were notified that the driver had an active warrant for his arrest through South Carolina.

Shirley says while checking on this information Deputy Daniel Dixon and his K-9 Reba, with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and performed an open-air walk around the vehicle and made a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

A subsequent search of the vehicle located a quantity of suspected marijuana estimated to be several ounces and a quantity of methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia.

The driver was identified as Marcus Wheeler and the passenger Lori Summers.

Wheeler, 30, was arrested and charged with DUI-drugs, violation of conditions on limited driving permit, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession and use of drug related objects, seat belt violation, and no tag.

Summers, 34, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Both were transported to the Stephens County Jail where they are currently being held pending bond.
